Greeting card redesign challenge #10 – Birthday bird

Just a quick drawing of a birthday bird. The original card was given by our neighbour who has a birthday 2 days after me. Which design do you like the best?

Greeting card redesign challenge #4 – Lillies

Well this turned out quite different than what I had expected. I started drawing this watercolour abstract of Blushing Calla Lillies while attending a Master Tendering Class in town today. It looks more like a bird or a baboon or a safari animal than flowers, right? Have a look at the original painting by JK Park (from a birthday card that my late friend Vic sent me) and let me know what you think.

Greeting card redesign challenge #2 – Birthday cake

This is a card that the boys in my house gave me for my birthday. Again this is one of those generic and mass produced birthday cards usually printed in China. It’s bright enough and has images of cakes, presents and balloons – pictures that convey “birthday” but so blergh! How can I make it better? Have a look below and see what I’ve done!

The original generic card

And here’s my version. I know it’s completely different and you may not even see any similarities except for the balloon at the top and the piece of cake in the mouth area. It’s an interesting interpretation but what do you think?

Greeting card redesign challenge #1 – Kingfisher

This month I’m going to redesign a greeting card everyday.

Here is a greeting card that my good friend Katrina has sent me for my birthday. It’s a pretty boring card actually. It’s an interesting photo of a Red-backed kingfisher taken by photographer Helen Fallow. I say interesting because although it looks real enough, the image looks like it’s been Photoshopped (the background looks all wrong), printed and stuck on a card.  Below is the original card:

Now here’s my version (below) a la abstract style using various coloured markers:

So which design do you prefer?
